The Gila Conservation Coalition hosts the 15th annual Gila River Festival Our River, Our Future September 19-22, 2019 in Silver City, New Mexico and along the Gila River. Join us to explore the future of the Gila River in relation to the changing climate, as well as our responsibility to act as responsible earth stewards, with keynote speaker climate activist Tim DeChristopher and many renowned presenters. The four-day festival will feature dynamic presentations and hands-on activities designed to foster a deeper intimacy with the Gila River, New Mexico’s last wild river and named America’s #1 Most Endangered River of 2019 by the organization American Rivers. Festival events include river outings, expert-led hikes and field trips, presentations, music, community art projects, and more.

Field Trips

  • All field trips leave from the Murray Ryan Visitors Center at 201 N. Hudson St. Silver City, unless otherwise noted.
  • Field trips gather in the Visitors Center parking lot 15 minutes before start time to set up carpooling.
  • Field trips leave rain or shine.
  • Please note - field trip start times may change slightly. Final times will be printed in the festival brochure and updated on the website by early August.


  • Workshops take place at The Commons at 501 East 13th St. Silver City unless otherwise noted.


  • Presentations take place at the WNMU Besse-Forward Global Resource Center.
  • Tim DeChristopher keynote address takes place at the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theater, 1100 N. Kentucky St.
  • Admission FREE or by donation at the door depending upon speaker.
